Podcast imageOne of my favorite things to do is listen to podcasts.  I got started in 2009 when I was extremely eager for any scrap of news I could get about the Palm Pre. Now I listen to several different podcasts and I thought it would be fun to share my favorite podcasts with you from time.

Since I began listening to podcasts to keep up on Palm Pre news, I am sure you are not surprised to learn that my first podcast love was a tech news podcast called Buzz Out Loud, a new defunct CNET podcast. The show had great hosts (Molly Wood, Tom Merritt and Jason Howell), was informative and entertaining. Sadly, Buzz Out Loud has been off the air for over two years, so I have had to look elsewhere for my news. My current source for tech news, and my first podcast recommedation, is Daily Tech News Show (DTNS) hosted by Tom Merritt (yes, the same Tom Merritt).

Daily Tech News Show ImageDTNS is a fairly new podcast as it has only been on the air since January of this year. Each episode is 30 – 40 minutes in length.  While DTNS may be new on the scene, Tom Merritt’s years of experience in technology news, gives the show the needed depth to provide you with the tech news analysis you need. When you tune in to DTNS, you know that you will be kept abreast of what is happening in the technology world by a knowledgeable host. Tom Merritt will also provide you with great insights into today’s happenings, You also have the benefit of receiving news analysis that has a good historical foundation. I think this is critical to truly understanding what is happening in the news whether you are discussing technology or current events.

One thing I really like about Tom Merrit as a host is that while he is smart and knowledgable about tech news, he doesn’t give off the air that he is is just ever so slightly above his listeners. I’ve experienced this with other podcasts and it can be very annoying. You do not have to worry about this with Daily Tech News Show. Tom Merritt gives his listeners credit for being smart and well informed.

Another reason why I recommend Daily Tech News show is that it is entertaining. Tom Merritt seems to have a good sense of humor and he is not afraid to show it. This is a very good thing. Trust me. If you have ever driven dow the Interstate listening to a podcast and struggled to stay awake because of the dryness of the show’s host, then you understand the problems that can be inherent if the host does not keep you interested in the show. Luckily, if you are listening to DTNS that will not happen to you with DTNS.

Each day Daily Tech News Show will have one or more guest hosts to discuss that days tech news.  This helps keep the show fresh and ensures a variety of opinions are represent. Not everyone feels the same way about technology and his use of a variety of guests helps ensure that each topic has good coverage and more than one point of view is expressed. I think this is definitely part of what makes DTNS a good dhow. In addition to his regular guests, Daily Tech News show also has regular contributors such as Darren Kitchen and Patrick Beja that help keep DTNW show interesting and fresh. A fun addition to most Friday podcasts is the art of Len Peralta. Each Friday, Mr. Peralta does a sketch of the main story being discussed on that day’s DTNS.) Because I listen to the podcast, rather than watch,I can’t see the sketch at the end of the show, but I have seen his work for DTNS in his store and it is quite good.  It’s a great addition to the show and not something you will see everywhere.

I definitely recommend giving Daily Tech News show a listen. If you are reading this blog, you probably have at least some interest in technology. Daily Tech News is an easy to listen to way to keep up with the happenings in technology today. Give DTNS a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
