Since my birthday in October, I have been saving all money and all gift cards in order to buy a new lens from my camera.  I’ve wanted a zoom lens with image stabilization in the lens.  My hands are just not that steady and I don’t want to always have to drag a tripod with me.  The lens I had been saving for was the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II Telephoto Lens.  This lens has been on my wish list forever.  But I was never able to make it happen until now.  After Christmas, I finally had more than enough money to get me the desired lens and a couple of weeks ago I finally ordered it.  (And even had enough left over to get a Wacom tablet, but that’s for another post.)  And this week, I finally got to put my new baby to use.

To be honest, the whole expedition did not have the best start.  Why you ask?  Well, I kind of forgot to put an SD card in my camera.  (Yes, I know.)  Normally, when leaving the house, I double check my battery as I have two and can switch out batteries if necessary.  When I do this, then I’ll see the “no card” message if a card had not been put back in the camera since last use.  This time, for some reason, I did not check the battery.  And I did not realize it until after I was done at the Ft. Pierce inlet and ready to head to Riverside Park in Vero Beach.  Needless to say, I had to start all over at the Inlet.  I lost some great shots and poor David was more than ready for a drink by the time I was done.  I still got some good shots, including one that almost became my photo of the week.  But it was in Vero that took a photo that I love.

For some reason, I have always dreamed of getting a good shot of a bee, or other insect, on a flower.  I have no idea why.  This to me has just always been a dream shot.  Well, this week I finally got the photo I have been wanting (well, two actually).  I took this photo toward the end of my time at Riverside Park/Veterans Memorial Island.  For this shot, I set my own aperture along with focusing the lens myself and I could not be happier with the result.

I’ve been so happy with this picture that I’ve already created one digital scrapbooking layout with it.   I’ll be back later this weekend to show you the layout, along with my other recent layouts.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.  I’d love to know what you’d love to capture if you had the opportunity.  Just leave me a comment below.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.
