I am back with a new television show recommendation. If you have been watching House of Cards and have already burned through the third season, this show can help you deal with your withdrawals.  It is not a new TV show, but it is a show I’ve watched all seven season multiple times and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The show I am recommending to you today is The West Wing.

The West Wing ran for seven season on NBC. The show, created by Aaron Sorkin, takes place mostly in The West Wing during the the two terms of fictional President Josiah Bartlet (played by Martin Sheen). The main focus is on the President and his staff including The Chief of Staff (played by John Spencer), Director of  Communications (played by Richard Schiff) and the Press Secretary (played by Allison Janney).

I originally started watching The West Wing because of my love of politics. I have a degree in Political Science so when the show was announced for the 1999-2000 season, I was extremely excited. And I was not disappointed when the series aired. I was hooked from the first episode. If you enjoy politics, you will definitely like the show. Even if you aren’t into politics, I still think you can enjoy the show. It is funny and well written. You might be worried that if you aren’t a Democrat, you won’t enjoy the show. I don’t think that is true. I will admit that the politics of the show do lean towards the left, but I don’t think its overly heavy handed and they often take the time to look at both sides of the issue. Some of my favorite episodes are ones that include the character of Ainsley Hayes (a Republican working as an associate counsel in The White House Counsel’s office).

I am rewatching The West Wing right now. I am enjoying the show as much this time as I did the first time through. I think if you give it a shot, you will find The West Wing to be a show you will really enjoy. You can find The West Wing on Amason, iTunes, Google Play and Netflix.

I hope to be back later today with at least one more list in my 30 Lists project. Until next time, don’t forget to document your memories.
